Gunmen kill night guard in Ilorin

Agbo-Oba area of Ilorin was thrown into confusion following the murder of a night guard, Umaru Aliyu around 1am on Sunday, by unknown gunmen.
It was gathered that the deceased was returning to base after checking on another guard in the area when he was accosted by the gunmen who shot him dead and carted away his mobile phone.
When National Pilot visited the area, the remains of the victim and a rap of granulated pepper were  noticed at the spot he was reportedly shot.
Speaking on the issue, a resident of Agbo-Oba who does not wish to be named said, “A friend of the deceased who is also a night guard confirmed that Aliyu came to him and asked for powder pepper to cook. He gave it to Aliyu and they continued their discussion for a few minutes before the latter left with his mobile phone charger around his neck.”
Also, another resident of the area informed our reporter under condition of anonymity that around 1am, they had a gun shot and a voice of someone shouting in Hausa language adding that another gunshot was heard with no noticeable response from the victim.
“In the morning, everyone was thrown into a state of confusion as we met Umar’s lifeless body on the road. We wondered what could have led to his death.”
Another source said that, the deceased was once robbed of his mobile phone at same spot where he was killed while returning home.
Meanwhile, the remains of the deceased was evacuated by the police around 9.30am yesterday and deposited at the Ilorin General Hospital, following a distress call to the DPO of Adewole “D” division, Adamu Zawah.
The remains of the deceased was said to have been released later to his father – also a night guard at the residence of ex- minister, Eyitayo Alao. Meanwhile, Aliyu has been buried at the Muslim Cemetery, Ilorin, yesterday, according to Islamic injunction.
Speaking with this medium in a telephone interview, the police spokesman DSP Ajayi Okasanmi confirmed the incident but stated that he is yet to be fully briefed.
