KWSG gives N61.6m compensation to 178 farmers, others

The Kwara State Government has paid the sum of N61.6 million compensation to 12 customary landowners and 178 farmers.
The beneficiaries from Yeregi, Adio via Malete in Moro Local Government of the state were paid the compensation last weekend, following the acquisition of 789 hectares by the state for agricultural purpose.
Speaking during the presentation  of cheques to beneficiaries, the Director General of Kwara State Bureau of Lands, Alhaji Ibrahim Salman said, ” Sometimes in May 2017 an Agric related company Quinnmc-grath Food Limited approached the state government for land and we were able to get about 789 hectares for them around Yeregi, Adio via Malete in Moro Local Government.
“That is why we are paying compensation to the landowners today. The beneficiaries are basically 12 customary landowners and 178 farmers.”
Salman stressed that the acquisition of 789 hectares by the state government is meant for agricultural purpose.
The DG urged the benefiting communities to cooperate with the company as they stand to benefit more from them.
The representative of ‘Quinnmc-grath Food Limited, Mr Bode Olayemi said the company intend constructing an ultra modern livestock farm in the area.
Olayemi revealed that the company would commence operation immediately as all the modalities were perfected with the state government.
He said the reason for influencing the location of the company in the state was to create employment opportunities for the people especially the hosting communities.
He added that the transfer of skills will be another advantage to the localities while advising them to maximise the benefits accrued to them.
Also speaking, the Chairman of Moro Local Government, Alhaji Mumini Saka Eleyele commended Governor Ahmed led administration for the initiative and urged the beneficiaries to use the money judiciously.
He said the council will continue to support any developmental projects that would benefit the people and the state in general.
On his part the Bolagun Gambari of Ilorin, Alhaji Aliyu Mohammed urged the beneficiaries to carry members of their families along in the disbursement of funds to avoid grievances
