Ilorin Shop owners cries out over burglary

Shop owners in Sango, Ilorin, Kwara State are counting their losses following activities of burglars in the area in recent time.

Some of the victims, who spoke to our reporter on Saturday, said they have lost goods running to millions of naira to the burglars, as they called for police intervention in the security challenge.

Speaking to Pilot Crime, a telephone accessories trader, Lukman Akeem, said the robbers broke into his shop last Tuesday and carted away his wares.

“Last Tuesday, I got to my shop in the morning to discover that it had been burgled.  All my wares were stolen.

“I’m very sure that the crime was committed by area boys who wander aimlessly during daytime. Some of them pretend to be customers and even go ahead to haggle over price of items, which at the end of the day they won’t buy. Their aim is just to survey the shop and subsequently burgle it,” he added.

Another victim, Aishat Alabi, said the burglars broke into her provisions shop and made away with her goods penultimate Saturday, explaining that the robbers gained entrance into the shop by cutting iron bars.

This medium also gathered that on New Year eve, a spare part shop belonging to an Igbo man, popularly addressed as Arinka, whose identity is yet to be ascertained was burgled.

It was learnt that the burglars dug a big hole underground from where they gained entrance into the trader’s shop carting away his money and wares.

It was further learnt that most of the cases were reported at the   “E” Division Police station, Kulende.

Efforts to get the state Police Public Relations Officer on the development proved abortive, as calls to his mobile phone did not connect and text messages not responded to.
