Gov Ahmed urges NSCDC not to relent in crime fighting

The Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed has charged men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to intensify efforts in fighting reducing crime and criminalities to the barest minimum.
Ahmed stated this on Thursday in Ilorin at the grand finale of the 2018 World Civil Defence week organised by the state command of the NSCDC.
The governor, who was represented by his former Special Adviser on Security, Amusa Bello, backed the rejection of the Peace Corps bill by President Muhammadu Buhari, claiming that the country already has enough security agencies.
According to him, there was no need to add Peace Corps or any other security agency rather the Federal Government should strengthen the existing security formations in the country.
Ahmed, however, charged the state Commandant to ensure the presence of his men in in the nooks and crannies of the state in order to combat crime.
In his remarks, the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, who was represented by the Magaji Nda of Ilorin, Alhaji Salihu Woru commended the gallantry of the civil defence corps in the state to maintain peace and security of lives and property.
Similarly, the Oloro of Oro Ago, kingdom Oba Johnson Dada appreciated the activities of NSCDC in fighting crime in his community.
Earlier, the state Commandant of the corps, Adeyinka Ayinla, stated that the security agency that started as a voluntary organisation in 1967 over the years has successful outings in disaster management particularly in rescue, reconciliation and rehabilitation.
According to him, the purpose of the World Civil Defence week is to create awareness about the main functions of the corps, which he said was to protect the civilian populace against disasters.
He disclosed that the theme of the 2018 edition was; “Civil Defence and National Institution for more Efficient Disaster Management.”
Highlights of the programme included; cutting of the cake and rifle cobbling competition.
