Int’l Women’s Day: Kwara first lady charges females to be role models

Wife of the Kwara State Governor, Mrs. Omolewa Ahmed has charged women in the state to rise up to challenges posed by the modernity
Mrs Ahmed stated this, yesterday, at the Kwara State Banquet Hall, Ilorin in commemoration of the International Women’s Day, 2018.
She said this is not then time for any woman to complain but an opportunity to surmount whatever hiccups they may face as role models to the young ones.
“You cannot change everything, but you can change yourself. Women are created for a purpose and in a unique way,” Mrs Ahmed stated.
Speaking further, the Kwara first lady said she had always taken up responsibilities during her secondary school days.
“When my husband was a commissioner, and there was this rumour of cabinet dissolution, I remember he said if by tomorrow he is appointed to carry files, he will carry it in his best way and diligently.”
According to her, one of the aims of this year’s Women Day’s celebration is to help business-oriented people expand their entrepreneurial skills.
“You don’t need money to take your business to the next level. What you need in absolute terms is the zeal and vision to excel. You are not blessed until you become a blessing.
“As women, we need to recycle our psyche,” she urged.
The event also witness talks from women who have excelled themselves in their various entrepreneur careers.
Among the keynote speakers were the first female mechanic in Nigeria, Mrs. Sandra Agulbor, an Agric business entrepreneur, who doubles as Special Adviser to the Minister of Agriculture, Miss Mosun Umoru and a Consultant, Mrs Ini Abimbola.
Mrs Ahmed stated that LEAH Foundation will partner with the keynote speakers in order to help any females in the state who intend to take to automobile engineering or farming.
In his good will message, the Economic Adviser to the Kwara State Governor, Yomi Ogunsola said, “about 25 people are to be trained by the state government on solar alternative power generation with N1m to be given to each participant after the training.”
Highlights of the event include the award of scholarship to 200 women on ICT while another five were awarded scholarship at the International Vocational Training and Entrepreneurship College, Ajase-Ipo.
