Former special assistant to Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed on Commerce and a one-time Chief of Staff to Hon Moshood Mustapha, Alhaji AbdulRazaq Soliu (Abosioyoyan), former senior special assistant to the governor on Legislative Matters, Hon Kayode Omotose and ex-commissioner for Women Affairs, Hajia Ayinke Saka are among those whose names reportedly made the list of commissioner nominees from Ilorin West local government, last night, National Pilot can report.
Ilorin West is the only local government with three commissionership slots among the 16 councils in the state.
Although the council has two constituencies, political positions are said to be shared based on the three districts of Ajikobi/Alanamu and Magaji Ngeri with seven and five wards respectively.
Both Abosioyoyan and Omotose are from Alanamu, same as the slot zone of the immediate former Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Kamaldeen Ajibade while Hajia Ayinke Saka hails from Ajikobi.
It could not be ascertained last night before this paper went to bed whether the Magaji Ngeri district resolved its slot issue which was said to have witnessed a stormy session just as the name of a yet to be ascertained woman reportedly emerged.
It was gathered that the state chapter of the party had directed all the local government councils to submit three names each including a youth, a male and a female to be considered for appointment in the next round of commissioners in the state.
Since that directive, some local governments have engaged in the process of selecting preferred candidates which had reportedly caused what a source described as “serious issue” in the councils with some caucus meetings ending in deadlock, yesterday.
Others who reportedly made the list from Offa, it was gathered last night included the immediate past elected council chairman from Essa A, Prince AbdulWaheed Oluwasegun Olanipekun, Dr Abdul Folorunsho Taiyeshe from Ojomu North West and Chief Oluwasegun Olawoyin from Ojomu Central B.
No fewer than 14 candidates have reportedly indicated interest to vie for the position of Special Adviser/Special Assistant in Offa, a situation which remains unresolved last night.
In Oyun, the names of former commissioner of Housing, Muideen Alalade was unanimously returned but it was gathered that there was a “slight hitch”.
A source said “10 out of the 11 wards agreed to return the serving commissioner and Tunji Moronfoye as Special Adviser. Erin-Ile South however kicked against it”.
In Ilorin South, the list for commissioners include former elected Vice chairman of the council and ex-TIC vice chairman who had also served as one-time supervisory councillor for Agriculture and Health, Hajia Fatimah Abdullahi (BF II), immediate past secretary of the council and chairmanship aspirants in the last council election, Alhaji Garuba Mustapha (BF I) and one Idris from Okaka ward. A source described Hajia Abdullahi as a very active party member at the local government and state level of the party.
Former supervisory councillor for health, Barr. Wahab Yahaya, Hon Surajudeen Akanbi Abdullahi and Hajia Abdulkadir Bukola Shukrat were the nominees for commissioners in Ilorin East.
In Isin and Kaiama, only one name was reportedly selected among the three requested by the party. More consultations were said to be going on and further meetings have been scheduled for today (Monday).
Former council chairman, Seyi Edunfunke from Oke Onigbin ward was one of those listed in Isin. Those being considered for the post of Special Adviser/Special Assistant from Isin include; Sam Adewoye (Pamo/Sabaja Oja), Bashir Madandola (Ijara Isin) and Eng. Seye Ogunbiyi (Oke-Aba). Former commissioner for Planning, Wasiu Odewale is to return for Ifelodun while his Tertiary Education counterpart, Hajia Aminat Ahmed emerged as the sole nominee in Kaiama through the backing of the Emir.
In Asa, former lawmaker and ex-chairman of the state Scholarship Board, Hon Isiaka Mogaji from Ila-Oja, ex-chairman of the council and Commissioner I in SUBEB, Alhaji Wahab Lawan from Laduba and former LGEA chair and retired civil servant, Alhaji Habeeb Saadu Korope from Egbe reportedly made the list.
Former special adviser on Transport, Deji Oni (Ilofa), immediate past Commissioner for Agriculture, Goke Bamidele and Goke Jolayemi emerged as nominees from Oke-Ero. It was gathered that stakeholders at the caucus meeting preferred the list to a fresh one to allow them finish their tenure that would lapse next year.
In Irepodun, it was learnt that only the name of former commissioner for Finance, Demola Banu was listed for commissioner slot. The likes of Special Adviser for Agriculture, Anu Ibiwoye, Special Adviser, Labour Matters, Bisi Fakayode and Yinka Olaoye emerged as nominees for the governor’s aides.
For Patigi, former Supervisory Councilor, Muhammed Kolo was the only name that had been nominated out of the three required for the post of commissioner, although checks by our reporter indicated consultations were still ongoing by stakeholders.
In Baruten, the names of former lawmaker, Adamu Sabi from Okuta ward and Abubakar Sidiq from Yashikira reportedly made the list. It was also gathered that former vice chairman of the council, AbdulRasheed Ibrahim is another strong contender, a source said.
The list of nominees from Moro and Edu Local Government council was still being awaited late last night before the paper went to bed.
