Mourinho blasts United fans
Jose Mourinho has blasted the Manchester United fans who booed young midfielder Scott McTominay when he was trying to take the sting out of a potential Liverpool comeback at Old Trafford.
There were audible mumbling from the United fans when McTominay played a backward pass to Nemanja Matic in the second half of the match, when it appeared the 21-year old could have made a forward pass to initiate an attack.
However, Mourinho, who has shown tremendous trust in the United academy product, came to the Scotsman’s defence, and took aim at the Red Devils’ fans instead.
“I am not upset at all by the fans’ reaction to me substituting Rashford,” the United boss said.
“I am upset with the reaction they had with Scott McTominay, a kid who was making all the right decisions on the pitch, and they want him to make the wrong decisions.
“So when the kid wants to break the intensity of the game, keep possession, make a backpass, the crowd reacted against it. It was a wonderful solution from him, a solution many top player with experience don’t do it.”
This will not be the first time Mourinho is aiming a dig at the Manchester United fans, as he has previously criticised a lack of atmosphere at Old Trafford this season.
