NPFL: Odudu, Kwara United wing wizard
With Toyin Saheed
Sunday Odudu’s performance against the visiting El-Kanemi of Maiduguri in week 12 fixtures of the Nigeria Professional Football League season played at the Kwara State Stadium complex was awesome and brilliant.
Despite the dismal performance of the team that led to the sacking of the coaching crews on Monday, some players are always showing good performances.
The harmony side now swimming at relegation bottom of the NPFL, which led to the sacking of the former U-20 coach.
Thought, the embattled Coach John Obuh didn’t start him in week 12 encounter, as Kwara United went down with 0-1 in the thrilling match.
The former Kwara Football Academy and ABS Ilorin FC was however introduced on resumption of second stanza and add glamour to the game.
The introduction of Odudu eventually paid off for the harmony boys in the 56th minute when Anthony John converted cross.
The attacking combination of Stephen Alfred, Anthony John and Odudu Sunday who are exceptional gave El-Kanemi Warriors defenders lots of problems.
Odudu made the difference when he entered in the second half with his good runs on the ball that scattered defenders of the visitors. Any time Odudu handles the ball, it’s generated big reaction from fans at the stadium.
He was always versatile on the field and his agility and movement with the ball make me remember the former Arsenal and Holland international, Mark Overmase.
His quickest on the ball usually give him better advantage over defenders and also have good dribbling skills as well.
Though, the winger has not put the ball at the back of the net in the 2018 Nigeria Professional League but he has made a significant impact to the team in this current season.
Odudu has natural natural pace, speed and his movement on the ball looks like Anthony Matia.
Odudu has been another outstanding player for United this season, even though many people doubted his ability to perform at the higher cadre of the league.
The former Saraki Boys proved his critics wrong when he played his first game as a substitute against Lobi Stars in Ilorin. He team was playing goalless but when he was introduced, he produced a fascinating performance that earned his club a 1-0 victory against the inform Makurdi side.
The good performance against Lobi brought him back to the team after he was neglected for more than five games at the start of the NPFL.
As John Obuh now left the club after he was sacked, Odudu must maintain the status and continue his impressive run in the league in order to be the favourite of the new coach.
