Gov Ahmed advocates regulatory body for religious preaching

Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed has advocated proper regulatory system for religious preaching to avoid extremism, intolerance and misguidance of youths in the country.

The Governor made the call on Saturday while receiving the National Executives of Jama’atul Izalatul Bidiah Wal Iqamatil Sunnah (JIBWIS) led by its National Chairman, Sheikh Abdullahi Bala-Lau at the Government House, Ilorin.

According to Ahmed, there is an urgent need for religion groups in Nigeria to devise an acceptable and workable means of curtailing indoctrination of youths by religious extremists. He advised JIBWIS to partner similar religious bodies in ensuring that correct information and teachings that would show the beauty and sweetness of Islam is disseminated in Nigeria.

The governor said there are misrepresentations and misconceptions on various teachings of Islam which must be addressed by relevant bodies to ensure that the right information is disseminated to the public about the religion.

“As leaders of religious organisations, you have critical roles to play in redirecting the society to lead a better God guided direction,” the governor said.

He commended the organisation for its efforts in propagating Islam and for preaching peaceful coexistence in the country.

Governor Ahmed also advocated acquisition of both western and Islamic education by Muslim youths in order to maximise opportunities and understand properly dynamics of the modern world.

Earlier, the National Chairman of JIBWIS, called on Nigerian leaders to always give sense of direction to the youths particularly through skill acquisition programmes.

He advised Muslims to follow the real teachings of Islam and laws of the land to ensure peace and harmony in the country. Bala-Lau added that the organisation, with over 40 years of propagating Islam, had rendered humanitarian services to a lot of Nigerians across religious divide.
