Security: DSS trains Kwara vigilantes on capacity building

The Directorate of Training and Staff Development, Department of State Services(DSS) ,national headquarters has trained Vigilante Group of Nigeria(VGN) on how to further strengthen the nation’s security.
The High Court of Justice of Kaduna has also affirmed Alhaji Ali Sokoto as the Commandant General of the VGN in the country.
One of the resource persons at the two-day training for the National and State Executives of the VGN, Godwin Agbadua, said the importance of security cannot be overemphasised, as there cannot be any meaningful development without security.
At the Capacity Building workshop held at the Kapital Club, Abuja, Agbadua stated that the concept of security in an organisational sense has evolved gradually throughout history to reflect the society.
Responding to the training, the Kwara State Commander of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, Saadu Bolorunduro thanked the DSS headquarters for the training, saying that it would go a long way in addressing some of the security challenges across the country.
Saadu mentioned that officers of the VGN have been adequately empowered on necessary skills needed to combat crimes, crime prevention, management and control.
Bolorunduro said,” we are going to ensure that all our officers and men who are not opportune to attend the workshop in Abuja would be provided with similar training at our Kwara State headquarters, Okoolowo area.”
He however called on government at all levels to continue to provide the necessary support to VGN in its bid to bring to the barest minimum, crimes and other related issues in the society.
The Commandant also appealed to Kwarans to always cooperate with VGN by providing all the necessary information that would assist the group in fighting crime.
“People should always visit our headquarters at Okoolowo area with relevant information on activities of men of the underworld as all information given would be handled with confidentiality,” he stated.
Bolorunduro also promised that VGN would continue to complement the efforts of other security agencies, particularly the police in Kwara State.
The Commander General of VGN in his remarks, appreciated the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu Gambari , the Federal Government and security agencies for supporting the group.
