The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s councilor in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, Omoolope Adebayo Anifowose has decamped to the ruling All Progressives Congress Party (APC).
He officially decamped to the APC with his followers, on Tuesday during a ward meeting.
Speaking on his defection, Anifowose told Pilot Politics that he made the bold step to join the ruling government in order to serve his people who voted him during the election better.
He complained that PDP, being a minority party will not give opportunity for a politician to serve his community in the best capacity.
He however lauded the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki for his leadership qualities even has he vowed to play his part in order to complement the works of the party leaders.
“I was not forced to leave PDP, I felt I needed to serve my people better especially those who voted for me during the last election. If I don’t leave the minority “opposition party, I won’t be able to do this. There is a structure in APC and to the best of my knowledge, its working.
“I respect the person of Saraki, he has done so much for this state, I only want to complement him in my little way. I’m an in-house member of APC before, for me, is like, I’m back home,” he noted.
The Eruku Ward chairman in the council, Engr. Joseph Adebayo who confirmed the defection last night disclosed that the party leadership lauded the development and also vowed to officially welcome the decampee and his followers to the party.
He said “During the last local government elections, Anifowose played active role in his former party, he shook the APC then but we thank God he is with us today and as we speak, the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki and party leaders are all aware. He had made a bold step by his decision,” Adebayo said.
