Kwara Dep Gov named Pillar of Mathematics
The Kwara State chapter of Mathematical Association of Nigeria, on Tuesday in Ilorin, conferred the award of Pillar of Mathematics on the Deputy Governor of the state, Elder Peter Kisira.
In his address, the Chairman, Dr. Funsho Bello described Kisira as a role model to members of the association.
He added that the Deputy Governor was singled out for the award in recognition of his immense contributions to the growth and teaching of Mathematics.
Bello explained that the association has been working with relevant authorities as well as organising and attending competitions to encourage the teaching of the subject.
The Chairman stressed the need to sensitise Nigerians on the importance of the subject.
He called for the assistance of government for its members to attend seminars and conferences to be abreast of development in the profession.
In his remarks, the Deputy Governor reiterated the state government’s determination to encourage the teaching and learning of Mathematics as the pivotal of development.
Kisira who stressed the importance of Mathematics to the development of the people and the nation described the subject as the engine room and basic instruments of Science.
He challenged members of the association and relevant bodies to work towards producing Mathematics teachers to ensure the development and progress of the country.
