The Chairman of Kwara State Local Government Service Commission, Hajia Sarat Adebayo has said the commission is focusing on training of staff at various council level in order to reposition it for better service delivery.
Hajia Adebayo, who was speaking at the opening ceremony of a two-day training workshop on the Role of Healthcare Workers in Promoting Sustainable Healthcare Delivery Services at the Grassroots Level said such trainings has become imperative to curb the nonchalant attitude of workers especially at LG level.
The training, she noted, is for the HoDs and other health workers across the 16 LGs in the state adding that the commission had held similar one for HODs in Agriculture. She added that next month will be for Admin officers, among others.
About 104 staff are participating in the programme which is expected to end today (Thursday).
“We intend to equip our healthcare workers at the local government level to meet the yearnings of the people in line with the goal of the present administration.
“Last month, we held a workshop to sharpen the capacity of our revenue officers, accountants and agriculture officers in an effort to promote capacity in revenue generation at the grassroots and to achieve a sustainable source of funding to give autonomy to our LGs.
“Today, we are focusing our attention on our health service providers because health is wealth. The greater population at the grassroots are those that engaged in economic activities, it is therefore our concern to give a good enabling environment to them so as to be active in social economic activities.
While it is one thing to improve our health centres by way of rehabilitation, renovation or outright provision of facilities where it is not available before, it is equally important to provide motivation to our health workers.
This training is an attempt to re-sharpen the knowledge of our health personnel for them to be updated with modern techniques of handling health services. The reason for our focus on health delivery is simply because we want a positive change in our ways of doing things.
She thanked Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed for his continued support to the commission and for making regular commitment to training a cardinal point.
