By Mike Adeyemi

The Chairperson of Ilorin West Local Government, Hajia Romoke Omodara has lauded the Kwara State Government over the release of revenue collection lines to local councils.

Omodara in an interview with Pilot Business in Ilorin, last Friday, described it as a welcome development.

It would be recalled that the Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KWIRS) handed over the lines of revenue it was collecting on behalf of the 16 local government areas in the state back to their respective councils.

Out of the 21 lists of approved revenue lines at the local level, 17 lines  were returned to the councils, who will now be in charge of the revenue collection in their various LGs.

According to the LG boss, with the development, respective councils will be able to optimally harness their revenue potentials.

“It is a very good development. It is high time local government kick start from where Kwara State Internal Revenue Service stopped. Ilorin West Local Government appreciates the effort of the revenue agency for good performance in the area of revenue collection on behalf of LG, “she stressed.

Omodara, said the local government is ready to take up the task headlong as it can boast of competent staff.

“We have blocked leakages in the areas of revenue generation. Ever since the return of revenue, our staff have been discharging that role effectively.

“With cooperation of the people, loopholes and leakages in Internally Generated Revenue have been blocked as tax payers will now pay directly to the bank, which will be indicated on their receipts,” she added.

Omodara further said that the era of multiple taxation and issuance of fake receipt is over as the council had put in place modalities to curb any irregularity.

However, she appealed to workers in Ilorin West Local Government area on the need to be diligent to duties in order to justify the prompt payment of their salaries.
