RTEAN to partner FG on illegal parks

In a bid to curb illegal motor parks in the country, the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) is on the verge of partnering the Federal Government.
The newly elected National Organising Secretary of the Association, Alhaji Abdulrahman Olayinka Onikijipa made the disclosure during an interview with National Pilot on Monday.
He said, “The operators of illegal motor parks in the country have made it difficult for both the government and road transport associations to find lasting solution.
“Many influential personalities are behind the creation of illegal parks in the country and because of the caliber of people involved, it becomes difficult to clear ‘the mess’.
“There are many miscreants hiding under the corridors of parks operators to commit all sorts of crime such as kidnapping, rituals among others.
Onikijipa stressed that to arrest the situation; RTEAN will sanitise motor parks by collaborating with federal agencies adding that the union has introduced systemic approach to address insecurity in the country.
He stated that RTEAN will continue to organise sensitisation programmes for drivers in order to reduce road crashes in Nigeria. The Organising Secretary however tasked all tiers of governments to priortise road projects in the country.
“I call on the federal, state and local governments to focus on construction and completion of road projects to ease the ordeals of commuters due to the deplorable condition of our roads,” he said.
Onikijipa however lauded the efforts of RTEAN National President, Chief Alhaji Musa Shehu Isiwele and the North Central Zonal Chairman, Alhaji Salman Ayoku in ensuring peaceful co-existence and growth of the union
