Kwara Poly inaugurates WITED exco

Kwara State Polytechnic has inaugurated the executives of Women in Technical Education and Employment (WITED), of the institution.

The chapter was inaugurated recently by the Deputy Rector Administration, Mrs. Olubunmi Olayinka Ajibade.

In her address, she charged Nigerian women to always strive to compete favourably with their male counterparts in any field to avoid being relegated to the background in the society.

Ajibade disclosed that WITED’s sole aim is to empower women through skills acquisition and support female students especially in the area of science and technology.

The Deputy Rector who promised that the management of the Polytechnic will always give adequate support to WITED enjoined the newly inaugurated executives to be diligent in the discharge of their duties in order to move the group to a greater height.

In her remarks, the Coordinator of WITED, Kwara Poly chapter, Mrs. Adijat Bukola Aiyelabegan lauded the management for being a pillar of support both at the state and national level.

She said WITED which was founded in 1988 by the then Common Wealth Association Polytechnics in Africa (CAPA) has a major mandate of identifying and tackling the factors that inhibit significant participation of girl-child in science and technical education at all levels.

According to her, “one of the objectives of WITED is to redress the gender imbalance in our technological education sector, particularly in science and engineering where women form insignificant percentage of the population.”

She promised that the executives will ensure that all hands are on deck to move WITED in the polytechnic forward.
