NPFL: Kwara Utd break jinx, beat Yobe Stars in Ilorin

 

Kwara United FC on Sunday breaks their winless streak in Nigeria Professional Football League with an emphatic 2-1 victory over the visiting Yobe Desert Stars at the Kwara Stadium, Ilorin.

The team under the new Coach, Abubakar Bala has not recorded victory in their last five games, both home and away.

However, the Harmony Boys break the deadlock yesterday, courtesy of goals by Segun Alebiosu and Sunday Chinedu. Chinedu Ohanachom getting the goal for Yobe Desert Stars in the encounter.

The result however reflected on Kwara United’s position on the log, moving from 19th position to 18th.

Meanwhile, Lobi Stars of Makurdi increased their lead at the top of the Nigeria Professional Football League to five points after a hard-fought 1-0 win against Sunshine Stars of Akure at the Aper Aku Stadium, Makurdi on Sunday, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

Kehinde Adeyemi scored the decisive goal 17 minutes from time.

At the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri, Kano Pillars maintained second position in the table following a 1-1 draw against hosts Heartland who now look destined for a return to the Nigeria National League.

Ekechukwu Nwadike gave the hosts the lead in the 27th minute, while Nyima Nwagua levelled scores for Pilars in the 61st minute.

Niger Tornadoes relinquished third position to Katsina United  after going down a 3-0 defeat against MFM at the Agege Stadium in Lagos and also losing  their nine-game unbeaten streak in the process.

Sikiru Olatunbosun got a brace for the Olukoya Boys in the game, while substitute Chijoke Akuneto scored the other goal.

Destiny Ashadi scored the only goal from the spot as Katsina United beat champions Plateau United 1-0 at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium, Katsina.

In Jos, Enugu Rangers extended their unbeaten run against Wikki Tourists to seven games after holding their hosts to a 1-1 draw.

Usman Many put Wikki ahead after 14 minutes, while Tope Olusesi equalised for the Flying Antelopes 11 minutes before the break.

FC IfeanyiUbah beat Go Round 2-1 in Nnewi with Ekene Awazie scoring for the hosts, while Chidi Nwachukwu netted the only goal for Go Round.

It was also a fine evening for Kwara United who beat Yobe Desert Stars 2-1 in Ilorin courtesy of goals by Segun Alebiosu and Sunday Chinedu, with Chinedu Ohanachom getting Yobe Desert Stars’ only goal of the game.

Rivers United and Abia Warriors ended their game at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port Harcourt in a 0-0 draw, while Nasarawa United  beat El-Kanemi Warriors 2-0 courtesy Ikechukwu Nwani’s brace.
