A magistrate court sitting in Ilorin, Kwara State on Tuesday sentenced 29-year-old Samuel Akin Ojo to one year imprisonment for theft and burglary.
He was dragged before the court for the offence of house breaking and theft contrary to section 286, and 349 of the penal code, punishable under sections 287 and 348 of the penal code law.
The First Information Report stated that the convict was arrested by members of a local vigilante group after he had burgled one Mr Sunday Obafemi’s apartment on 5th May, 2018.
The FIR further revealed that the investigation conducted by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) showed that the convict and his cohorts are notorious burglars.
During the proceedings, the Ojo pleaded guilty to charges and prayed the court to tamper justice with mercy.
The NSCDC prosecutor, Ajide Peter prayed the court to give punishment desirable to the offence Ojo committed so as to serve as deterrent to those who are still indulging in the act.
Chief Magistrate Bio Saliu however sentenced him to six months imprisonment for the office of theft and another six months for the offence of burglary without option of fine.
He’s to serve his term concurrently at the Federal prison yard, Mandala.
