Jebba Road Crashes: Moro LG boss calls for speed breakers

The Chairman of Moro Local Government Area of Kwara State, Alhaji Saka Mumini Eleyele has called for construction of speed breakers on Jebba Express Way to checkmate the incessant road crashes in the area.
Eleyele stated this on Tuesday during a visit by members of the office of Emergency Management and Relief Services following the recent tanker explosion in Jebba leaving five dead and four others injured.
Also, goods and property worth several millions was lost as a tanker loaded with fuel went up in flames after crashing into another truck transporting about 500 motorcycles.
Speaking in a statement released by Issah Mohammed, the Chief Press Secretary to the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Isiaka Gold, Eleyele appealed to the Federal Government to as a matter of urgency construct speed breakers as palliative measure to reduce incessant road accident on that particular spot.
The Chairman said aside the 500 motorcycles that were badly burnt, 20 shops, a mosque and maternity home were also affected.
Earlier, the Secretary, Emergency and Relief Services, Mrs Adaran Motunrayo on behalf of the state government sympathised with the victims over the unfortunate incident even as she  prayed that such incident will not reoccur.
Mrs Adaran also used the occasion to call on every individual and corporate organisation to as a matter of urgency complement the state government’s efforts by assisting the victims.
She then assured the people that the assessment tour is to enable the state government ascertain the level of damage in order to intervene. She however urged the people to guide against such mishap.
While conducting the officials of Emergency and Relief Services around during on-the-spot assessment, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Jebba ward Chairman, Hon. Muyideen Bakare who was an eye witness said danger may have been averted but for the high speed of the tanker.
Similarly, a motorcycle and spare parts merchant, Paul Obonu said he has lost all he worked for in the past 36 years adding that it will be difficult to quantify the loss.
According to him the fire consumed his wife’s shop, his personal shop, a cold room, deep freezer, vehicle and machines spare parts, drinks, provision store, cosmetics items, among others.
Mbonu called on government at all levels and well-meaning individuals to come to his rescue as he now finds it difficult to cater for his family.
On the inspection team was the Vice Chairman of the council, Hajia Iyabo Abdulrasaq and the Councillor representing Jebba ward, Hon. Musa Alhassan Ndalo.
