Go back to drawing board, education stakeholders urged
By Matthew Denis
Education stakeholders in the country have been charged to go back to the drawing board to revitalise the learning system with new policies and programmes.
This is to avoid depletion and total collapse of the primary education system in Nigeria.
The Chairman of Ilorin West Local Government Area, Hajia Aminat Aromoke Omodara made the disclosure during the retirement of 25 Local Government Education Authority (LGEA) staff held at Apalara area, Ilorin last Wednesday.
She said, “We are glad that they are leaving the service without blemish and they can hold their heads high among their contemporaries as competent authorities and well bred staff.”
The Chairman who was represented by the Education Secretary of the Local Government, Alhaji Uthman Animashaun however called on education stakeholders to urgently go back to the drawing board as the noble profession (teaching) is fast becoming depleted.
The Chairman added that except something reasonable is done, primary education may witness total collapse in the country.
She advised the retirees to collaborate with the council by pulling their wealth of experience to bear to develop the education sector.
Omodara however tasked the LGEA staff to be hardworking, resilient in their service to humanity.
Speaking in an interview with our reporter, one of the retirees, Alhaji Moshood Alfa Pakata enjoined teachers to continue to render selfless service, noting that they are the fountain of knowledge that have produced professionals in diverse fields in the society.
