Security: Speaker donates 4 motorcycles to Kwara Vigilante Command

In a move to combat crime and criminal activities, the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Dr Ali Ahmad on Tuesdaydonated four motorcycles to the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), in the state.

The motorcycles were handed over to the Chairman of the VGN in the state, Alhaji Saka Ibrahim by the Speaker at the state Assembly premises.

Speaking with our reporter, the state Commander who doubles as the Seriki Ndaji of Ilorin, Alhaji Abdulraheem Jimoh appreciated Ahmad for the gesture, adding that it will encourage his officers in combating crime.

Similarly, the Chairman promised to work in tandem with the police and other security agencies.

He said, “In February, we went to the Kwara State House of Assembly for a meeting on the prohibition of alcohol and those dealing in human parts in the state. The Speaker gave us two motorcycles and the two are stationed in Ilorin East and South for patrol and we requested for additional motorcycle.”

He added that on Tuesday, the group was invited to the House of Assembly for the Law of establishment of the Security Trust Fund and at the meeting, the Speaker handed over keys of four motorcycles to him.

” The Speaker has saddled the command with responsibility of arresting those who are in the habit of exhuming corpses since the government has passed the law against those dealing in human parts.

“We now have the right to arrest anyone found wanting in the act and hand over such persons to the police.”

Meanwhile, the VGN yesterday appreciated the Speaker in a letter addressed to him.

Part of the letter reads; “It will be on the record that you are the first Speaker in the history of Kwara State House of Assembly who is interested in the security of his people. We assure you of our ever ready support and cooperation with other security agencies to ensure that our state is free from crimes and every act of criminality.”

The command also appreciated the Emir of Ilorin Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu Gambari, the council of Muslim Organisation(CMO), the Olofa of Offa, Oba Muftau Gbadamosi and the Director of Programme, SEAP, Dr. Olatunde Oladokun for their financial and moral support.
