Kidnapping: Kwara Police arrests 3 suspects
The Kwara State Police command has arrested three suspected kidnappers over alleged abduction of one Alhaji Adamu Adamu of Tabera Fulani camp, Okuta in Baruten Local Government Area of the state.
The suspects; Yahaya Daodu, Hassan Alhaji Jida both of Kero Fulani camp and Yere Kumeh of Munduro Fulani camp in the same area were nabbed for the crime, penultimate Tuesday.
It was gathered that the suspects, who are cattle rearers, demanded the sum of N5million ransom from their victims’ relatives for his release.
According to a police source, the victim’s son, Mohammed Adamu reported at the Okuta Police headquarters that his father who left home two days earlier had gone missing and the family suspected that he had been kidnapped.
“He said his father’s abductors placed his palm sandal and a paper with phone number at the doorstep of his house. Mohammed contacted the suspects through the phone number and was informed that the owner of the sandal (his father) had been kidnapped,” the source narrated.
“The suspects later called Adamu’s relatives and demanded the sum of N5million naira ransom. The victim’s son informed the vigilante group and leadership of the Okuta community of the development.
“The police took up the case and tracked the phone number and in the process Yahaya Daodu was arrested. In the course of interrogation, he confessed to the crime and revealed that Jida was the mastermind of the kidnap.
“The revelation led to the arrest of the gang leader, who also confessed to the crime and implicated Kumeh. Kumeh was arrested through police intelligence.
“During interrogation another member of the gang identified as Tambaya, who is at large, was said to be in possession of the victim’s Bajaj motorcycle valued at N215,000 and N6,000.
The case, the source divulged is being handled at the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department.
“Effort is ongoing to arrest Tambaya who is now at large and for the recovery of the victim’s Bajaj and the cash,” the source added.
When contacted over the case, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi said he was unaware of the matter.
