Welfare of members my priority, says new Kwara RTEAN chair

The newly elected Chairman of the Kwara State Chapter of Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), Alhaji Abdulrahman Olayinka Onikijipa has promised to make the welfare of members the priority of his administration.

The election of Onijikipa as chairman and other executives took place last week at the national headquarters of the association, Abuja with delegates from the state well represented.

 Onikijipa is also the National Principal Organising Secretary of the association aside holding the position of  Secretary of the state branch until now.

Speaking with our reporter at the weekend, the new Chairman said, “the welfare of my members and cooperation with federal and state agencies in reducing road crashes are top on my agenda.

“I’ll also facilitate cordial relationship with other transport unions and stakeholders in the state to curb the menace of illegal motor parks and the issue of people who drive under alcohol influence.

“There are many miscreants hiding under the corridors of park operators to commit all sorts of criminal activities such as kidnapping, highway killers, ritualists among others.”

Onikijipa added that he will ensure the completion of the ongoing state secretariat of the association adding that RTEAN will not relax on sanitisation of the parks through enlightenment programmes.

He however called on governments at all levels to focus on construction and completion of road projects to ease the movement of people and goods across the country.

Onikijipa appreciated the immediate past Chairman of the association in the state, Alhaji Salmon Ayoku for ensuring lasting peace and harmony within the association during his tenure.
