The lawmaker representing Ojomu Central B Constituency of Offa Local Government Area at the Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon Saheed Popoola is reportedly in a web of allegation bordering on issuance of dude cheques to some of his creditors, National Pilot, has learnt.

But Popoola who is the former chairman of Offa Local Government while reacting, described the allegation as a lie from the pit of hell adding that he relies on God alone to fight all his “battles” for him.

The lawmaker was said to have issued some of the cheques for the settlement of the debt he owed some persons in the state.

It was gathered that one of the new generation banks in the state reportedly complained to the Kwara State House of Assembly over the frequency at which most of Popoola’s cheques have bounced and have reportedly threatened prosecution.

According to a source who spoke on the matter based on anonymity, “the bank (name withheld) lodged a complaint to the House recently through one of its female employees.

“There have also been several other similar cases that have come to the fore against him (Popoola) bordering on issue of default in payment among other financial issues,” the source added.

However, Popoola who is the chairman of the House Committee on Information while speaking exclusively on the matter, last night on telephone noted that the issue may be politically motivated considering “current developments” in the state.

According to him, this (the allegation) is a lie from the pit of hell. If at all there were bounced cheques, it was because the cheque entered when my account has not been credited.

“I use the cheque to target my salary and even those people I owed have since been paid, they have all collected their money.

On insinuation in some quarters that he reportedly joined the Lai Mohammed and Moshood Mustapha faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) because of his alleged neglect by the party over his situation, Popoola said he never expected any party or persons to stand by him.

“I am not expecting the party or even the House of Assembly to come to my rescue but I depend on only God to assist me anytime I have problem. If at all there is anyway the House of Assembly had assisted me clear any debt, it was my personal money that was used and  not that of the legislature,” he added.
