Don warns couples against divorce

A lecturer from department of Arabic, University of Ilorin, Dr. Usman Abdusalam Thaqofi has warned Muslim parents against divorce adding that the devastating effect is always unbearable in the upbringing of children.
According to him divorce can lead to the destruction of the future of a child due to lack of parental care.
Thaqofi made this statement on Saturday during the 17th anniversary of Jamhiyat ‘ Lateef Society of Nigeria (JAMLAT) and Ramadan lecture organised by the association.
He stressed that aside permanent impediments or barriers of marriage which could lead to separation between the husband and wife, he listed religious difference, family, societal, economic and ideological reasons as other causes of separation.
Thaqofi said, “When couple are from wealthy and poor families without sense of humility and mutual understanding, some family members tend to be cruel against their child’s partner. Such an occurrence could lead to separation.
“The society also contributes to divorce as people living in the couples area, and those they mingle with offer them advice on how to leave their lives which may cause misunderstanding between them. “
Thaqofi explained further that, economy is another reason for separation of couple adding that, these occur mostly when a husband cannot take care of his family, provide them education, food and shelter, due to his low level of income or refusal to cater for them.
“Sometimes, a wife may be wealthier than her husband or have regular income flow than him but not ready to assist her partner who will see her as a miser, a situation which could lead to divorce.”
Also speaking, the Managing Director/Editor -in-Chief of National Pilot Newspaper, Alhaji Billy Adedamola, while congratulating the Islamic group on their 17th anniversary.
He charged those in attendance to make use of the lecture for the betterment of their lives adding that it is imperative to consider the children in whatever decision to be taken as parents.
Adedamola however pledged that National Pilot will play supportive role to boost the image and activities of the association.
Similarly, former chief press secretary to ex-governor of Kwara State, Alhaji Mas’ud Adebimpe appreciated the organisers of the programme led by the Chairman of the association, Alhaji Abdulahi Isiaq Ajapin adding that the topic chosen was apt and timely.
