Tragedy struck in Ikosin, Ilere district of Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, when a farmer who doubles as a civil servant was coldly murdered on his farm by suspected Fulani herdsmen, last Friday.
The deceased simply identified as Mr Ogunyomi is a resident of Ikosin town and was reported to have left his home for the farm in the morning but failed to return home.
According to a source who pleaded anonymity, Ogunyomi was said to have been involved in a dispute with the herdsmen after they led their herds to his farm few weeks ago. The herdsmen however returned last weekend to unleash attack on the farmer, leading to his death.
“At first, it was not unusual as he sometimes stay late till evening before returning home. I became worried when I did not see him return by 8pm and I called his mobile phone but could not reach him,” said wife of the deceased, Mrs Ogunyomi.
The local hunters and vigilantes were called upon and searches were made on his farm and other neighbouring communities. His body was found in his farm on Saturday with all sorts of lacerations on his body.
Speaking further, the source said two suspects have been arrested in connection to the incident.
When contacted, last night, the Kwara Command Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi confirmed the incident but said he has not been provided details of the occurrence.
