Gerin Alimi Underpass: KWSG debunks change of contractor, explains slow pace of work
By Mumini AbdulKareem
The Kwara State Government, last night debunked the allegation that the contractor handling the Gerin Alimi Diamond Split Underpass Project has been replaced over capacity issues.
There has been insinuation from some quarters in the state that the contractor of the project, Duraville has been replaced with new set of contractor following perceived slow pace of work lately regarding the project.
But the Commissioner of Works and Transport, Alhaji Aro Yahya strongly rejected claim during a telephone chat with this National Pilot on Wednesday adding that it will “soon” be completed.
According to Yahaya, there is no iota of truth in the allegation and reiterated that the contractor handling the project is the one still in charge.
He explained that the slow pace of work recently was due to the rains.
“It (the project) is open to verification and you can go and verify. The contractor has finished the two bridges already but the heavy rain is causing a slow down on the pace of the work and I can assure you that the work will soon be completed”, he added.
It would be recalled that the Executive Governor of the state, Dr. Abdulfatah Ahmed flagged off the N3.7 billion underpass project in September, last year.
The project was also awarded to Duravil Engineering Ltd while BAL Engineering serves as the consulting firm.
