Argentina’s Lanzini thanks fans for support after injury setback
Argentina midfielder Manuel Lanzini has thanked the fans for their love and support following his injury setback which forced his withdrawal from the Albiceleste squad that will play at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
The West Ham star broke the anterior ligament in his right knee in training which effectively ruled him out of the mundial.
The injury put paid to his ambition of representing the two-time World champions at the World Cup for the first time.
“This publication is to tell you that beyond the suffering and pain I feel for what happened to me, for being so close to fulfilling the dream I dreamt of as a kid as it was to play a World Cup, not being able to do it. I am very grateful to you for having sent me such nice messages of support, affection and good energies, to thank my family that they always see a positive side to this and that makes me very well and for restraining me,” Lanzini wrote on his Instagram account.
“I also want to thank my colleagues who took care to do everything possible to make me feel good and not to go through such a painful day. Also send them many strengths and hopefully they can achieve the goal they set out as principle, all together for a dream, and I repeat to you again, THANKS, for your support for me, so now I think of a good recovery and getting well for what comes to me in my career.”
Argentina head coach, Jorge Sampaoli, has drafted in River Plate’s Enzo Perez as replacement for Lanzini in the squad that hit Russia for the World Cup on Saturday.
