Ekiti APC Mayhem: Bamidele flown to UK for treatment
A former member of the House of Representatives, Opeyemi Bamidele has been flown to the United Kingdom for treatment.
On June 1, Bamidele was shot at the All Progressives Congress (APC) secretariat in Ekiti during a reception organised for Kayode Fayemi, the governorship candidate for the July 14 election.
He was later taken to Euracare Multi-Specialists Hospital on Victoria Island, Lagos, for treatment.
Doctors were said to have removed bullets from his body.
According to Punch, Bamidele was flown to the UK on a private jet belonging to a national leader of the APC, Bola Tinubu.
The newspaper said Tinubu insisted that Bamidele should be flown to Europe so he will receive proper treatment.
The former house of reps member served as a commissioner under Tinubu.
“He (Bamidele) had started cracking jokes at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti, where a surgery was performed on him before he was flown to Lagos for further treatment,” the newspaper quoted a source as saying.
Ahmed Salami, media aide to the ex-lawmaker, reportedly confirmed that his principal has been flown abroad for treatment.
“He is fully stabilised, so there is no cause for alarm. He only went abroad for a post-surgery management and to get prepared for the task ahead. He actually walked into the plane,” Salami said.
On Monday, the Ekiti state police command said the officer responsible for the shooting had been dismissed.
