For raping and setting ablaze a 15 years old girl (name withheld) in Offa, Offa Local Government area of Kwara State, an High Court sitting in Ilorin, last Thursday sentenced Mustapha Muritala to 34 years imprisonment.
Muritala, a 23 years iron bender apprentice in Offa was however charged for the offence of rape and attempted murder.
For the offence of rape, the presiding Judge, Justice Hannah Ajaji sentenced the convicted Muritala to 14 years imprisonment, 24 years for attempted murder with N100,00 fine.
According to the judgement, the girl was sent to buy petrol by her mother who is grinder when she was ambushed.
The judge said, Muritala followed her through the bush and when they were about getting to the main road, he drew her to himself, empowered the girl, rape her then set her on fire.
She also explained that the victim spent three months in the hospital saying she was been cared for by Dr. Shittu at Temitope hospital along Saboline area of Ilorin.
She further read that International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), Kwara State branch has been making concerted efforts to source for money for the operation of the girl in abroad.
