Farmer remanded for allegedly cutting off cattle rustler’s hand

A magistrate court sitting in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital yesterday remanded a farmer, for allegedly cutting off the left hand of one Muhammed Haliru, while grazing his father’s cows.
According to the Police First Information Report, the farmer, Kabiru Garuba cut off Haliru’s hand with cutlass at his farm land in Reahe Kpada village, Fulani camp, Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The accused, Garuba was however dragged before Magistrate Kudirat Yahya for causing grevious hurt contrary to section 247 of Penal Code Law.
It further stated that the case was transferred from Patigi Divisional Headquarters to Criminal Investigative and Intelligent Department (CIID), Ilorin for discreet investigation.
It also revealed that one Wakili Abubakar of the same address was the one who reported the incident at the police station on behalf of his brother’s son.
It stated that “Haliru went to the bush in Reshe Kpada taking his father’s cows for grazing, just suddenly one Garuba attacked him and cut off his left hand on the basis that he had warned him not to enter his farm where he planted maize and Guinea corn again
The victim is still on admission at Lafiagi Clinic and Maternity, Patigi receiving treatment,” the FIR revealed.
The prosecutor, Inspector Matthew Ologbosaye however prayed the court to remand the accused in the prison custody.
Magistrate Yahya in her ruling ordered the remand of the accused, Garuba while the case was adjourned to 19 July, 2018
