Who emerges 2018 World Cup top scorers?

With the World Cup now well and truly underway, we look at which players are leading the early race for the Golden Boot award.

All but four of the 32 competing nations have now been in action at Russia 2018 and there have been plenty of goals on show so far.

The Golden Boot is given to the player who scores most goals in the tournament, with previous winners including the likes of Portugal’s Eusebio (1966), Italy’s Paolo Rossi (1982), England’s Gary Lineker (1986), Brazil’s Ronaldo (2002) and Colombia’s James Rodriguez (2014).

Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo currently heads the scoring charts with three goals after his stunning hat-trick in his side’s 3-3 draw with Spain on Friday night, with Russia’s Denis Cheryshev, Spain’s Diego Costa, Belgium’s Romelu Lukaku and England’s Harry Kane all hot on the Real Madrid forward’s heels with two goals to their name.

Denis Cheryshev scored two goals as Russia thrashed Saudi Arabia 5-0 in the opening game of the tournament

Meanwhile, there are 18 other players who have got off the mark at the World Cup, including France’s Antoine Griezmann, Brazil’s Philippe Coutinho and Argentina’s Sergio Aguero.
