Nollywood stars savouring joy of single parenthood

Being a single mother is no longer a big deal in this age of technology and for some Nollywood celebrities this has become a fashionable trend.
Here is a list of some Nollywood single mothers who seem to be coping well with their status though not all of them set out to be single mothers as some of these celebs were married but had to abandon their marriages for different reasons.
Iyabo Ojo: Despite being a mother of two grown-up kids, many men would readily tell you that Iyabo Ojo still retains her radiance. Having become a single mother a long time ago, the actress, Ojo, who will turn 41 later this year, tends to her 20-year-old Festus and 18-year-old Priscilla – and seems to be coping well enough.
Genevieve Nnaji: The 39-year-old star actress had her daughter, Theodora Chimebuka Nnaji, when she was a teenager. According to her, she has been able to raise her only child who is now a graduate of Nnamdi Azikwe University.
Genevieve, who has been an inspiration to many ladies, was able to manage her life as a single mother with her career perfectly and has kept her daughter off the radar of the media world.
Regina Chukwu: Regina Chukwu might be a woman of Igbo origin but she is a proud Yoruba actress. Her single motherhood is as a result of the untimely death of her husband, Sunday Nwafor. His death, which occurred when her second child, Richard, was just four months old, was more than devastating for her even if she has gone on to weather the storm fairly well.
Kate Henshaw: After her marriage of over 12 years hit the rocks in 2011, Kate Henshaw has not looked towards marriage since then although she has stated that nothing is ruled out. An actress with a strong pedigree, she has channelled her energy into building her career and caring for her daughter, Gabrielle Nutall.
Faithia Balogun Williams: Faithia has been a single mother to her children, Aliyah and Khalid Balogun, since her marriage to fellow actor, Saidi Balogun, turned sour. It took her years after her failed marriage to dump her husband’s surname for her maiden name, Williams, because according to her, the name, Faithia Balogun, was her trademark.
Tonto Dikeh: The beautiful actress has been in the news more frequently since her separation from her former husband, Churchill, with whom she has a son. As far as she is concerned, she doubles as both father and mother to her little boy. Apart from being pictured dressed like a man to attend a function meant for fathers in her son’s school, Tonto Dikeh, has continued to wished herself happy father’s day for the past few years.
Bukky Wright: There are women who continue to look attractive despite ageing. Bukky Wright, an actress born in Ogun State, easily falls in that category as men still can’t keep their eyes off her despite the fact that she is now a grandmother.
Her marriage, which reportedly broke down many years ago, has two sons to show for the union and the children have come of age.
Ibinabo Fiberesima: A former beauty queen, who went on to serve as the president of the Actors’ Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Ibinabo Fiberesima, reportedly had two kids from two different relationships before adding a child from her relationship with actor, Fred Amata.
Monalisa Chinda: Life has definitely not been a bed of roses for Monalisa Chinda, actress, film producer and TV personality. The Rivers State-born actress has not been so lucky with love but she has courageously never let that affect her shine as a brilliant actress and a wonderful mother.
Since she parted ways with her husband, Victor Dejo-Richards, who she married in 2009, Monalisa has been a single mother caring for her child, Tamar.
Bisi Ibidapo-Obe: Best known as Bisi Omologbalogba, the name of the main character she played in a popular movie, the tall actress and entrepreneur has a child with the controversial senator from Kogi State, Dino Melaye. Since her relationship with Melaye, who denied having anything to do with her at the time, never going as far as the altar, the actress has been a single mother and seems fine living on her own terms.
Liz Da Silva: The Yoruba actress who calls Nigeria her home but with parents from Togo, has a young but charming son, Raheem. The beautiful Liz Da Silva, who is one of the notable actresses in the Yoruba section of Nollywood, is a single mother as she has never been married.
Adunni Ade: Born in Queens, New York, United States to a German – American mother and a Yoruba Nigerian father, Adunni Ade, was raised in Lagos and the United States. She earned a degree in Accounting at the University of Kentucky in 2008 and worked in the housing and insurance sectors in the United States before switching to the entertainment industry.
Adunni has two sons, D’Marion and Ayden and the Head Gone actress once said she will continue to be a single parent for a while after making the difficult choice to break up with their father.
Tayo Odueke: Also known as Sikiratu Sindodo, the controversial actress has a 20-year-old look-alike daughter named Naomi whom she did not just give birth to at a very young age but for whom she has been a single parent all along.
Biodun Okeowo: The actress, who is said to have been in an abusive relationship in the past, is a single parent of two children. According to her, she has had a very rough start in life but she takes solace in raising her kids these days.
Mercy Aigbe: After the messy separation from her second husband, Lanre Gentry, last year, the 40- year-old actress is not doing badly raising her two children, 17-year-old Michelle, who is a teen model and Olajuwon, the eight-year-old boy she brought to the world with Gentry. Like Tonto Dikeh, with whom she is now a friend, she wished herself Happy Father’s Day while knocking fathers who shirk responsibilities.
