Residents of Olorunsogo community in Gaa- Akanbi, Ilorin, Kwara State were last Monday thrown into confusion following the discovery of a shrine operated by armed robbers in the area.

The shrine was uncovered by the police’s Abba Kyari’s Intelligence Respond Team (IRT) during an operation, which led to arrest of three suspects, National Pilot reliably gathered.

The suspects, a police source divulged were involved in the robbery of Orange Filling Station in Tanke Area of Ilorin, sometime in May, this year.

The suspects, all of Igala extraction are Nelson Yakub, James Obaje and Ibrahim Mukhtar from Kogi State.

The shrine which is reportedly inside the house of the suspects is said to serve as a cache for their ammunition and rituals.

It was further learnt that the police recovered two AK 47, other ammunitions numbering about 150 and locally made bullet proof from the robbery gang.

According to the source,“ The search carried out on the apartment of the suspects led to  the discovery of the shrine. Inside the shrine were charms and three live fowls, which the gang members confessed that they consult before any operation.

“The police also recovered two AK 47, about 150 other ammunitions and locally made bullet proof, belonging to the gang from the shrine.”

The source told our reporter that the police had been on the trail of the armed robbery since the attack on the filling station, adding that their hideout was discovered following tip off.

During interrogation, the suspects were said to have confessed to be notorious armed robbers with several crime records.

“The suspects revealed that they carry out operation using dangerous weapons and diabolical powers, which they got from the three live chickens found in the shrine. They consult the live fowls before embarking on any criminal activity,’’ the source added.

The police source further said that investigation into the case which could lead to the arrest of other members of the gang.

Ajayi proved abortive as calls to his mobile phones were not picked and text messages not acknowledged at the time of filing this report.

It would recalled that a six-man gang had carried out a robbery attack   on a new petrol station, Orange in Ilorin on Wednesday, May 16th, 2018.

The incident happened between 8.55 and 9.20pm on that fateful day, with the bandits carting away an undisclosed amount of money.

Eye witnesses said the robbers carried out their operation in commando style and shot sporadically while the operation lasted.

In a related development, operatives of the F-SARS have arrested, a man simply identified as e  Akosile for being in possession of a locally made gun.

According to a police source, the suspect was arrested in Ganmo, suburb of Ilorin, following tip off.

“Investigation has revealed that the suspect is a notorious armed robber and efforts are on to arrest other members of his gang,” he added.
