A middle aged man, Adamu Umar is cooling his heels currently in police net over alleged murder of a 10-year-old boy, Ishola Abdulkadir .
The incident occurred in Gboro Village via Bode Saadu, Moro Local Government, Kwara State, penultimate Sunday, Pilot Crime learnt.
According to Police source, the case was reported at the Divisional Police headquarters in Bode Saadu by a member of the victim’s family.
“The boy, a mechanic apprentice, was returning home after the day’s job at his workshop in Oloko village when he was attacked.
“The deceased later escaped from his assailant crying for help. His cry alerted some people who came to his aid.
The boy reportedly died after narrating his ordeal to the good Samaritans in which he gave vivid description of the suspect as his assailant.
“The people were angry and a search party was organised to find the suspect, who had taken to his heels having gotten knowledge of the boy’s revelation.
“The case was reported at the police station and officers swung into action. A manhunt was launched for the suspect, who resided in a neighbouring village.
It was gathered that Umar was later caught at his hideout by policemen.
The source disclosed that the case was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department of the Kwara State Police Headquarters in Ilorin for discreet investigation.
“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to have attacked the 10-year-old boy along a bush path at Oloko.
“Umar said he strangulated Ishola in an attempt to forcefully collect the N100 given to the boy by his father.
The suspect, a mason said he was hungry and wanted to use the money to buy something to eat.
The police source further disclosed that the case is still undergoing investigations and the suspect will be charged to court thereafter.
When contacted on the case, the state Police Spokesperson, DSP AJayi Okasanmi said the matter is still being investigated.
