Accreditation: KWSG approves N7.5m for COED, Ilorin

The Kwara State Government has approved the release of the sum of N7.5million payable to National University Commission (NUC) for the verification and accreditation of degree programmes at the Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin in collaboration with Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti.
The Provost of the college, Dr. Abduraheem Yusuf disclosed this to Pilot Education last Thursday, shortly after the official ceremony to welcome delegates of the NUC to the institution.
“We thanked the Kwara State Government for this new development and at the same time releasing the sum of N7.5 million payable to the National University Commission for the verification and accreditation of degree courses in the college.
“The state government deserves some commendation for fulfilling most of his pledges to the college, part of which, we are doing today,” the Provost said.
Recall that last Thursday, officials of the National University Commission arrived the Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin for resource verification exercise on regular degree programmes.
In his welcome address, the Provost said the college is delighted to receive the delegates and officials of the NUC alongside management staff of the Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti.
He said, “Before the commencement of any academic programme in the university, the NUC must approve of such course and I am convinced that the programmes that the NUC have come to verify will take off this year.”
Speaking further, Yusuf said, the institution has witnessed some positive changes within the short period of his assumption of office despite limited resources.
In the remarks, the Kwara State Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Barr. Abdullahi Alikinla while welcoming the NUC team to the college said, “I am delighted to be back to my Alma-mata. It is hoped this exercise will go a long way to promote the college among its peers.
“I wish to congratulate the Governing Council and management of the college for promoting qualitative education in the state despite the paucity of funds.
“It is my hope that prospective students far and wide would make use of this opportunity, the commissioner stated.
Also speaking at the event, the Chairman of Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) of the School, Mallam Najeemdeen Anas applauded the Director CEC of the College, Mr. Yemi Ale, the Deputy Director Regular, Dr. Ayinde Jawondo, Deputy Director (Sandwich), Mrs. Oluwatoyin Sanusi and other management staff over the visit of officials of NUC.


…inaugurates tertiary institutions’ Taskforce

For effective monitoring and supervision of advanced coaching centres and state-owned tertiary institutions, the Kwara State Government has inaugurated a Taskforce team.
While inaugurating the taskforce in his office, last week, the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Barr. Abdullahi Alikinla charged the team to be diligent, disciplined and dedicated in carrying out their duties.
Among the schools to be monitored by the task force is the Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, Kwara State Polytechnic Ilorin, Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin, Oro and Lafiagi, the College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies (CAILS), Ilorin and the schools of midwifery and nurses across the state.
In a statement signed by Adamu Saidu, the Press Secretary of the Ministry, Alikinla also urged members of the Taskforce to identify existing tertiary institutions and advanced coaching centres in the state.
The Commissioner stressed that the development becomes imperative to ensure good data base for planning, control and supervision.
The Chairman of the Taskforce, Mr Banigbe Rotimi, who spoke on behalf of the members promised to do his best and not to disappoint the state on the confidence reposed on the taskforce.
He appreciated the state government for giving them the opportunity to serve the state in such capacity.
Other members of the group include; Mr Tunde Jimoh, Mr Ibrahim Musa, Mallam Badmus Yusuf, Mrs O.F Adebukola and Mr. S.O Adebayo.
