NIRA 2018 Awards:  Guardian, Pulse, others win

 

The Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NIRA) held the third edition of its awards in Lagos at the weekend.

The event, which was held at the Celebration Gardens International, Ikeja, attracted dignitaries from across the country, including the MD/Editor-in-Chief of National Pilot newspaper, Alhaji Billy Adedamola.

The Guardian won the Best Print Website Award for the third time in a row, while Best Online Website Award was given to Pulse.

The .NG company of the year was coveted by Bigcode Nig limited.

Other winners at the 2018 .ng Awards are; Most Innovative Service Provider Online, Novitia translations NG; Best Banking or Insurance Website/ Portal, Fidelity Bank and Best local hosting company, Trofoil network limited.

Start Up Company Of The Year was won by Agro-Park with University of Uyo winning the Best Tertiary Institution Website, Digital Innovation in State Government: Borno State.

Best e-payment Website was clinched by Wema Bank, Cool FM got the award for Best Electronic Media and the Best Digital Innovation in FG: Galaxy backbone.

In his address at the ceremony, President of NiRA, Revd Sunday Folayan, said the award was established to recognise the various contributions of those creating awareness of the .ng brand and to acknowledge those who are exploring and exploiting various opportunities in the DNS industry for a better Nigeria.

The .ng Awards, he said, is now recognised as a yearly event which serves to promote and commend the excellent achievements of NiRA members, stakeholders and the general public, who tirelessly contribute towards building a sustainable economy using technology and at the same time uplifting the image of the Nigerian identity- .ng locally and internationally by stimulating the development and consumption of local content on the World Wide Web.

“When we conceived the .ng Awards, it was purely to recognise and celebrate excellence and it will remain so. NiRA does not attach any monetary value to the awards. Since the inception of the .ng Awards, no sponsorship or donations is required to participate. The nomination and voting is at the description of the General Public”, he said.

The NiRA President also congratulated the heroes of the .ng existence, the various nominees who proudly projected their businesses using the .ng brand in the course of the year. “Your Zeal and patriotism is one of the motivating factors for us in NiRA, making us push the bar higher every year”, he stated.

Recall that National Pilot was nominated in two categories; Best Print Website and Best Online Website for the .ng Awards.
