Kwara Police arrests 4 for vandalising filling station, destroying property worth N7m

Men of Kwara State Police Command have arrested four people for vandalising and destroying property worth N7 million at MRS filling station located at Old Jebba road in Ilorin, Kwara State, penultimate Monday.

The suspects, Babatunde Jimoh, Sanni Muhammed, Salihu Isah and Ismaila Abdulahi, were also alleged to have stolen a trailer head valued at N2,500,000, tank worth N2,500,000 and a generator said to cost N2,000,000 belonging to the filling station.

According a police source, the proprietor of the filling station, Muritala Ojerinde reported at the state police headquarters that he received information that some people were vandalising his property.

The source explained that the development was fallout of a disagreement the owner has with certain people over the property.

“The victim complained that sometime last month, 15 persons, including policemen and soldiers came to his filling station and ordered himself and his staff to vacate the property, claiming to be acting on a court order.  He said they were forced out of the filling station and not allowed to remove anything including yet- to- be estimated cash from sales.

“Ojerinde claimed he bought an abandoned filling station named Kayowa Nig. Limited situated at Kilometre 4 Old Jebba Road, Ilorin from His Royal Highness, Late Kayode Owa, the Elegbe of Egbe land at the cost of N10,800,000 in 2003.

“He said since then he became the bonafide owner of the said property, which he reconstructed and registered with MRS Petroleum,” the source further explained. .

It was gathered that following the complaint lodged, operatives of the X-Squad of the Inspector General of Police moved to the scene and arrested four people while others escaped.

“They were taken to the command for interrogation where they confessed to have stolen the aforementioned items. Efforts to recover all these items are still in progress as the suspects are aiding the officers in the process and giving lead to other suspects at large,” the source added.

Efforts to get the state police spokesperson DSP Ajayi Okasanmi on the matter proved abortive as calls put through to his phone and text messages were not responded at the time of filling this report.

Men of Kwara Police Command have arrested three suspects for fraudulently collecting the sum of N2m from one Lateef Olawoyin, penultimate Friday.

The suspects; Taofeek Adeyemi, Bolaji Abdulahi and Taiye Akinola were said to have hypnotised their victim and defrauded him of the said sum.

According to police source, the case was reported at the ‘B’ Division, Surulere, Ilorin, Kwara State by the victim that the suspects came to his office at Alore area seeking to assist him over his mother’s sickness.

“They claimed to be Islamic clerics and demanded for money to help get cure for the victim’s mother twice and defrauded him of a total of N2m. He later came back to his senses and refused to give them more money on their third visit. Consequently, the clerics threatened to kill him or render him useless if he disclosed what transpired between them to anyone.

“Following the complaint lodged by the victim, the police swung into action and arrested three out of the four fraudsters while the last one escaped and still at large.

“The suspects, during interrogation at the police station, revealed that they were fraudsters who specialised in duping people on the pretext of being Islamic clerics and also confessed to use diabolic means to hypnotise their victims,” the source added.

Efforts to get the state police spokesman, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi to speak on the case proved abortive as calls and text messages sent to his phone were not responded to at the time of filing this report.
