NBBF ready for hitch free Div  2 zonal playoffs

 

The Nigeria Basketball Federation has assured all stakeholders of its readiness to stage a hitch and incident free Total/NBBF Division 2 Zonal playoffs.

Speaking through the Total/NBBF Division 2 League Director, Andrew Isokpehi, the board said all logistics have been put in place to jump ball in 2 centres in line with the league schedule.

“I can tell you that we are 100% ready for what is going to be the first of its kind Zonal playoffs in the history of basketball in Nigeria in our quest to determine teams that will make up Total/NBBF Division 2 and ultimately gain promotion to Total/NBBF Division 1.”

The Edo state born retired coach said from the arrangements put in place so far by the federation; participating teams are in for an exciting time.

He assured all teams of fairness and a level playing ground across the 6 geopolitical zones as he emphasised that only deserved teams will progress to the conference phase of the competition.

“This is a new era where clubs will be treated equally. Referees and other Technical Officials have been handed strict warning on the need to officiate within the ambit of the laws governing the game.”

For ease of administration and coordination, action will tip off in the South West and North Central Zones between the 10th and 16th of August in Abeokuta and Makurdi.

In the South West zone, Police Doctors, Warriors Academy, both from Lagos will face Young Royals, Warlords (Ogun) and Hoop Dream All-Stars (Oyo).

Other teams are Raptors, Rockets (Ekiti) King and Kings and Owena Warriors from Ondo State.

In the North Central region, representatives from FCT (Area 10 Clubs, Airforce), Plateau (Pama Chiefs, Rebirth), Benue (Pearls, Gboko City Chiefs), Nasarawa (Super Heat, Golden Touch), Niger (Nigeria Prisons, Suleja Hornets), Kwara (Unilorin Stars, Titan Stars) and Kogi (Tao Lions and Uipers of Ajaokuta) will converge on Makurdi.

The teams will play in a round robin format with the top 2 qualifying for the Conference phase between the 3rd and 8th of September.

South South and South East zones will converge on Calabar and Umuahia between the 17th and 23rd of August while North West and North East teams in Zaria and Jalingo will play from the 24th of August to 30th.
