The lawmaker representing Balogun/Ojomu constituency of Offa Local Government, in the Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon Saheed Popoola has warned of the present leadership crisis rocking the party and called for truce among the key players in the conflict for the party to deliver its dividends of democracy to the people.
Popoola who initially indicated interest to contest for the Speakership of the House before he stepped down for the current speaker, Hon Yakubu Danladi-Saliu, described the escalation of the crisis rocking the party as unfortunate.
Popoola while speaking on a recent Radio Programme on the leadership crisis between Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq and party chairman, Bashiru Omolaja Bolarinwa said the two party chieftains are gentlemen and urged those fuelling the crisis within the party for personal selfish interest to desist for the interest of the overall interest of the change they promised the generality of the people.
According to Popoola who said he remained a party man to the core, warned of the consequences of abandoning the ladder that the party used to climb to governance at all levels.
“Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq is a gentle man to the core and I don’t believe he’s behind the crisis being experienced within the party.
“Same thing with the Party chairman, Hon Bolarinwa, another perfect gentleman, I believe its too early us to be experiencing what we are now passing through. All the promises that party leaders like Bar Iyiola Oyedepo, Chief Rex Olawoye, Comrade Musbaudeen Esinrogunjo among others came on radio to make to the people have not been fulfilled. Not a single one out of the close to one hundred made has been fulfilled”, he added.
Saheed who is former commissioner and local government chairman in the state is one of the most experienced lawmakers among the APC members of the 9th legislature with requisite party experience.
“The party is supreme and this is very important for us to note. I have demonstrated through my actions that i believe in party supremacy. When i wanted to contest for the Senate, House of Representatives and even speakership, the party said I should tarry a while in all these instances looking at the larger picture and I have to obey. That is the sacrifice I have made.
Excerpts of the his comment on the programme which went viral on many social media platforms many commending the lawmaker for acknowledging the party’s crisis and calling for lasting solution noted that “It is saddened that some APC members are plotting conspiracy against Kwara State chairman and seeking for his resignation. I condemn such actions and go against the rebellion.
“We need to be a party loyalists not party destroyers. I always believe in party supremacy and obey party decision. I jettisoned rep ticket and speakership ambition to obey party choice. I’m a man that loves truthfulness and always stand by it.
“Our party members plotting for the removal of BOB are doing that at the expense of personal interests. I believe governor won’t be behind such mischievous conspiracy. He is a governor who is ready to serve community and electorate and we must give him chance to do the needful. It is too early to demand much from governor as party members. He must fulfil his campaign promises and distracting him over personal interests will not only destroy his governance but also party as a whole.
“We know some mischievous people trying to create something from nothing but when we get concrete evidences we shall mention their names on air, he submitted.
