2 arrested for snatching motorcycles in Ilorin

Two men are cooling their heels in police net for allegedly snatching motorcycles from commercial motorcyclists in Ilorin, Kwara State.
The suspects are Kabiru Olaitan and Toheeb Abdulraman of Budo Efo village and Majekasurawa areas respectively in Ganmo.
It was gathered that the suspects use pepper powder to snatch motorcycles from their owners most especially commercial motorcyclists.
A police source disclosed that the case was reported separately at the Ganmo Divisional police station by victims, Lateef Ajani and Nura Mohammed that their motorcycles were snatched by the suspects.
The police were said to have through intelligence report and tip-off effected arrest of the culprits.
” Lateef Ajani reported that he took one of the suspects who pretended to be a passenger from Pipeline junction to Olunlade. On getting there, two men emerged from an uncompleted building and poured pepper powder into his eyes.
“He was then dispossessed of his Bajaj Motorcycle with registration number KSB 162 QR valued at the sum of N260,000″
The source further said that the second victim simply identified as Mohammed, a resident of Offa Garage area, narrated similar experience with the suspects in the same area, wherein he was robbed of his motorcycle with registration number SGM 630 QH valued at the sum of N225,000.
The source said the case was later transfered to Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department at the police headquarters for investigation.
“During the course of police investigation, the suspects confessed that they conspired to snatch motorcycles from owners, which they sell to unsuspecting members of the public. They also revealed that they issued fake receipts to buyers.
The source disclosed that the stolen motorcycles were recovered and returned to the owners.
“Investigation is ongoing as the suspects have given lead for the arrest of their gang member, Taofiq, who is on the run,” the source further said.
When contacted over the matter, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi said he was aware of the case, adding that the suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion of police investigation.
