Independence of SUG remains sacrosanct, says Unilorin VC

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Sulyman Age Abdulkareem, has said that the institution holds the independence of the student union sacrosanct.

According to Prof. Abdulkareem, this philosophy is what defines the relationship between the university management and the student body.

The Vice Chancellor stated this while inaugurating the 2018/2019 Student Union Central Executive Council, comprising the Executive Council and the Senate Council, at the University Auditorium, last week.

Abdulkareem said that the philosophy was hinged on the strong belief that, “Our students are fully oriented to the mission, vision and values of the university.

“As you all will agree with me, the independence of Students’ Unionism on our campus remains sacrosanct to us. That is the philosophy that defines our relationship with our students’ body.

“The philosophy is hinged on our strong belief that our students are fully oriented to our mission, vision and values; and that they will not do anything that could be detrimental to the values”.
