Residents of Kwara State have been implored to tolerate one another and to live harmoniously regardless of ethnic, gender or religious differences.
The Kwara State Deputy Governor, Elder Peter Kisira stated this yesterday during the 58th Independence Anniversary Church Service held at Strong Tower Chapel, Tanke, Ilorin.
Elder Kisira, who was represented by the Head of Service (HoS), Mrs Susan Modupe Oluwole said, “That we are alive to celebrate the 58th Independence Anniversary is not by mere chance or coincidence but the special grace of God.
“Let me therefore express due gratitude to God for this unique opportunity. In the past 58years, Nigeria has gone through many challenges, some of which have threatened our corporate existence. We however thank God that in spite of these, we are more than conqueror for we still remain an indivisible entity.
“And for us in Kwara State, we thank God that despite all the challenges, the state is relatively peaceful and with tolerance, peaceful co-existence and your continuous prayers, the government will government will continue to deliver on its promises to people,” Kisira said.
Speaking further, he said, most importantly, the prayers of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and other religious bodies ahead of the forthcoming general elections will take the nation through all its challenges.
He however appreciated CAN for its role in the relative peace enjoyed in Kwara State, this he said could be attributed to the huge success recorded by the government in delivering on its electoral promises to the people.
Earlier, the Chairman of CAN in the state, Evang. (Prof) Timothy Opoola in his message titled; “Unlimited God” urged Nigerians not to lose faith despite the numerous challenges the country is going through.
Speaking further, Opoola said, “Though there are many things going on that are terrifying, we however need to appreciate God in everything because today is the day of thanks giving.
“We should not join Ogboni or any other fraternity just because of our quest for elective position.”
Opoola said for Nigeria to attain the vision of its founding fathers, Nigerians especially our leaders  must confess their sins, be united as one and pray fervently.
