The Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU) has urged the newly promoted professors who are indigenes of Ilorin Emirate to focus their researches on community development services.
The National President of the union, Amb. Sheikh Usman Abdulazeez gave the advice in Ilorin on Saturday while speaking at a special prayer and reception organised by IEDPU in honour of newly promoted professors and Senior Advocate of Nigeria of Ilorin Emirate origin.
The newly promoted professors that were hosted by the IEDPU included the Provost, College of Law, KWASU, Prof. AbdulRahman Abiodun Amuda-Kannike (SAN); Prof Isiaka Amosa Gambari of FUT Minna; Prof Issa Alabi Abubakar of Unilorin; Prof Muhammed Jamiu Ali of Babangida University, Lapai. Niger State; Prof Musa Abdulsalam of Kogi State University, Anyigba and Prof Abdulfatah Olokoba of UniIlorin.
Others were Prof Abdulrazaq Abdulmajid Alaro of UniIlorin; Prof Ibrahim Abdulkadir Abikan of Unilorin; Prof Ibrahim Yusuf Arowosaye of UniIlorin; Prof Nimat Modupe Abdulraheem of Unilorin; Prof. Muhammad Mustapha Akanbi of Unilorin who had just been confered with rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN); Prof Moshood Mahmood Jimba of KWASU and Prof Abdulkabir Hussein of KWASU.
The rest were Prof Abdullah Abubakar, Prof Abdullahi Baba Alafara, Prof Abdulwahab O. Issa, Prof (Mrs.) Aishat Gobir, Prof Aliu Ajibola Akanbi II, Prof Baba Issa, Prof Kajogbola R. Ajao, Professor L.A. Usman, Prof M.K. Mustapha, Prof Shehu Adaramaja, all of Unilorin and the Chief Medical Director (CMD), University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, Ilorin, Prof Yusuf Da Silva.
AbdulAzeez described their elevation as a welcome development as it has complemented the cumulative efforts of others in debunking the stereotype of ignorance, backwardness and laziness that the community had had the misfortune of been decorated in the years back.
He also urged the new professors to always particularise their researches to Ilorin Emirate and her interests.
He said Ilorin, no doubt, has a universal reputation but they can make it more famous by deploying their energies and intellect in further placing it on the global intellectual map.
“Like our forefathers did, you must be ready to fight for the cause of Ilorin and always ready to defend her interests and core values. You will need to appreciate the “Ilorin Project” of our founding fathers, by sustaining the aspirations of the community.
“Let me also say that your new status demands offering every form of assistance to your younger colleagues from Ilorin. That is the only way by which Ilorin Emirate can produce more egg-heads”.
In his remark, former Vice Chancellor of University of Ilorin, Prof Abdulganiyu Ambali said the honour done on them by IEDPU signifies enormous responsibilities ahead of them.
Prof Ambali charged the newly promoted professors to have the love of their community at heart in the discharge of new tasks ahead.
The Imam Imale of Ilorin, Alhaji Abdullahi Abdulhameen led the prayer session, while the programme also featured presentation of copies of Holy Quran to new professors.
Speaking on behalf of honourees, the Provost, College of Law, KWASU, Prof. AbdulRahman Abiodun Amuda-Kannike (SAN) thanked IEDPU for the honour which he described as very rear and promised to justify the honour by always be good ambassadors of Ilorin Emirate.
