Falcons target title in epic final clash against Kano Pillars


Samson Olusegun made one from a pair of free throw in the dying seconds of the last quarter to seal a first ever Championship final for Kwara falcons in one of the most interesting game of the playoffs.

Trailing by 10 points (31-41) at the break, coach Erinfolami’s falcons outscored Hoops 28-19 in the third quarter to cut the deficit to four (64-68).

The Ilorin side chased Hoops for the majority of the game which had eight lead changes, but with 1:52 seconds remaining on the clock, the Atlantic conference champions tied the game 76-76 and went further ahead (77-76).

With 0.5 seconds left, Samson Olusegun delivered a point from a pair of free throw to send Falcons in to the final (78-76).

Mustapha Oyebanji, ex- Hoops & Read player, had a game high of 25 points with 5 rebounds against his former employer’s.

Skipper Anaiye Johnson dropped 23 points while Hoops & Read Victor Komombo carried coach Charles Osho side with 23 points also.

The Ilorin boys will face Gombe Bulls in Monday’s final by 4pm at the Indoor sports hall of the Kofarmata stadium, Kano, to decide the 2018 Kwese Premier League winner.

Gombe Bulls defeated reigning champions Kano pillars (66-63) in the other semi final fixture but has never played against Kwara Falcons in the top division.

The last time both sides face each other was during the 2013 division one final where Kwara Falcons won.
