JAMB pledges to sustain football tourney as Bamalli Poly emerges Champion
Joint admission and Matriculation Board, Professor Ishaq Oloyede has reaffirmed the board’s commitment to sustain and improve on the annual football Competition of the organisation to enhance Unity among institutions in the Country.
Professor Oloyede who was speaking at the closing ceremony of the 2nd edition of the Jamb tertiary Institutions Football Competition held at the University of Ilorin Sports Centre, Ilorin, explained that the competition was meant to foster Institutions Integration and discourage Social vices among students, stressing that the Championship has come to stay as a template to discover and nurture talents to develop their full career in football, adding the Competition has been included in organization’s annual budget .
Oloyede Pointed out that the tourney was part of their corporate Social Responsibility to the Society, believes the organized football tourney has achieved its cardinal objectives and Mandate, applauding the Main Organising Committee for a good outing and charged them to sustain the tempo.
On whether Unilorin will still be the next host and even extending championship to other Sports, Oloyede declined Comment, Saying the board would decide which state will be the next host or extending it to other sports, but confirmed that the kwara state Ministry of Sports and youth development would continue as the supervising Ministry of the competition.
In his Massage, the Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed represented by the Commissioner for sports and youth development, Alhaji MuyideenAlalade disclosed that the present administration will continue to Support Corporate Organisations and individuals in sports development through provision of an enabling environment, noting government alone cannot shoulder the responsibility of sports promotion without Public and Private Assistance .In his remark, the vice chancellor, University of Ilorin, Professor Abdulkareem Age appreciated Jamb for their zeal and determination to encourage students to be active in sports, noting the University will continue to provide Conducive environment for sports men and women to develop their full potentials.
In his good will message, the Chairman of the occasion, Comrade Issa Aremu Praised the leadership of Jamb for organising such football Competition to engage youths meaningfully, calling on other Corporate Organizations in the country to emulate the magnanimity of Jamb in giving back to the society in a positive way.
Comrade IssaAremu who doubles as the Gubernatorial candidate of the Labour Party in the Coming 2019 general elections promised to make youths oriented programmes a priority if given the Mandate.
16 teams from the six geopolitical zones of the Country participated in a week long football competition.
