DSP slaps sgt over arrest of 11 ‘Yahoo boys’

There was mild drama at the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad Command of Kwara State last Thursday as the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and officer in-charge of Transport, Deji Oladele reportedly slapped one F-SARS officer, Sergeant Jude Ekubi over the arrest of 11 suspected ‘Yahoo boys’.
According to a source who craved anonymity, the OC Transport, Deji, invaded SARS office at ‘A Division’ with four other police officers demanding the release of the arrested ‘Yahoo boys’.
National Pilot also learnt that, the suspects were arrested by the Inspector General of Police respond team headed by ACP Abba Kyari, in their bid to curtail criminal activities in the state.
The source further informed our reporter that, the suspects who were arrested last week are currently cooling their feet in SARS’ net.
Some of the suspects were said to have been nabbed in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital while others were reportedly tracked and arrested in Ibadan, Oyo State through intelligent devices.
The suspect arrested are; Oloyede Cosmos, Olawale Ismail, Oyebode Adekunle, Bakare Raphiu, Soliu Umar, Atiba Temitope, Adebayo Sodiq, Abodunrin Jubril, Jimoh Kamardeen, Ismaila Akindele and Muftau Jamiu.
“The DSP upon being intimated of the arrest of the ‘Yahoo boys’ stormed the ‘A Division’ police station with four other officers around 7:30pm demanding to see the arrested suspects.
“The officers on duty told him that the suspects in question were not arrested by them adding that the Kwara F-SARS officer did not make any arrest. Deji and his colleagues were asked to return to the police station the following day to meet the IGP team.
“In the process of explaining to them, DSP Deji came from behind and slapped the SARS police sergeant. It took the intervention of other officers to arrest the situation.”
The source stated that during investigation the suspects confessed that, they are into internet scam otherwise known as ‘Yahoo boys’ adding that they intermittently give bribe to the DSP in addition to buying him a Toyota Corolla car.
“The boys confessed they have been in the illicit business for long and with link to other ‘Yahoo boys’ in the country,” the source further divulged.
He however added that investigation is still going on in order for the suspects to reveal their accomplices and the officers that received bribe from them.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in Kwara State, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi said, he is not aware of the issue saying, “No such case has been brought before me.”
Efforts to contact, the Force Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Moshood proved abortive as calls made to his mobile phone and text messages sent to him were not responded to as at the time of filing this report.
