2 remanded over alleged vandalisation of Kwara Solar lights

The Magistrate court sitting in Ilorin the state capital on Tuesday remanded one Usman Azeez and Akeem Jamiu for allegedly vandalising government’s property.
The duo were accused of stealing solar batteries from streetlights along Adabata area of Ilorin.
The police First Information Report (FIR) revealed that the accused persons specialised in stealing solar batteries from street lights along Adabata area of Ilorin.
Following a tip-off, the FIR stated that detectives from the state Criminal Investigation Intelligent Department and Adabata security committee swung into action and arrested Azeez and Jamiu, both of Adabata area Ilorin.
It further revealed that, investigation conducted at the CIID Ilorin led to the discovery of four G.B.M Valve Regulated lead acid batteries 12v/150AH solar batteries valued at N200,000.00 attached to the solar street lights.
The report revealed that Azeez and Jamiu are the criminal element who specialised in vandalising Kwara state government’s properties within Ilorin metropolis.
The duo were dragged before Magistrate Nurudeen Adeyanju for criminal conspiracy and theft contrary to section 97 and 287 of penal code law.
The prosecutor, Inspector James Oduadu prayed the court to remand the accused persons in prison custody pending the outcome of police investigation.
Counsel to the accused persons, Abdullahi Jimba, however, submitted that the court should discountenance the prayer of the prosecutor and admit his clients to bail.
Magistrate Adeyanju however remanded the accused persons in prison while the case was adjourned to 12th November, 2018.
