Kwara state Commissioner for Finance, Alhaji Demola Nurudeen Banu has distributed items and cash award worth millions of naira to the people of his constituency.

Apart from the cash award, other Items distributed also include 20 generating sets for 20 mosques among the 37 mosques in Ajase I and half a million naira for the completion of the Oyun Baptist Church in Ajase-Ipo.

The events saw supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from across the wards in the community including the Hausa and Fulani community, women and youth groups among other residents who were full of praises for the commissioner.

Speaking to newsmen at the ceremony, Banu stated that the gesture was not connected to election but to give back to the people and appreciate God for all what He has done for him.

He said the effort was also meant to complement the efforts of the government in the provision of welfare and dividend of democracy to the people.

“It is not all about elections, it is usually a thing of joy for me putting smile on the faces of my people. As you are aware, the state government under the leadership of Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed has introduced several empowerment programmes targeted at the youths and the women, but there is no way everybody can be captured under such programmes and schemes. “The government can only play its role, we need to complement whatever is being done and what our political leader, Senator Bukola Saraki is also doing”, he added.

Banu stated in the programme since 2005, adding that it was initially an annual event but made it monthly as a way of giving back to the society.

Banu said he had continued his monthly contribution to the development of the party at the local government level and that the empowerment programme will last beyond his stay in government.

On the PDP gubernatorial candidate, Hon Razak Atunwa, Banu noted that he (Atunwa) is the most qualified among the guber candidates owing to his experience in several phases of governance in the state.

He said the former Commissioner of Finance is a political titan when compared to  the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Abdulrahman who is a seasonal politician.

“’There is no way you can compare Atunwa with the candidates of the other political parties; we don’t even know who really the APC candidate is.  We were told that someone won and that they announced another person as the winner and that  the issue is yet to be resolved. Let us even assume that Alhaji Abdulrahman Abdulrazak is the candidate, this is someone that we don’t even know much about. Hon. Razak Atunwa has gone through all the aspects of governance. He has served as the Speaker of the House of Assembly, he was a commissioner and he is currently a federal lawmaker, he knows what to do when he gets to power, he knows the terrain and he is not someone that is new to the public sector who would for one or two years be required to learn how government businesses are conducted, Atunwa will hit the ground running because he has the experience and the exposure unlike the other person”, he submitted.

Speaking on behalf of the Imams, Ustaz Nasirudeen Muhammed Awwal, Olori Omokewu of Ajase-Ipo, urged the commissioner to sustain his good deeds and charged other politicians to emulate him. Youth Leader, Ajase Ward 1, Comrade Shina Sanni commended the commissioner for the kind gesture.
