KWSG, drivers’ instructors sign MOU on Learners Permit, Plate issuance

In a bid to abolish the issuance of fake Learners’ Permit and Plate in circulation, the Kwara State government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Association of Drivers’ Instructors.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Executive Chairman of KWIRS, Dr. Muritala Awodun and made available to this medium on Thursday.
According to the statement, the state Ministry of Works and Transport will now be saddled with the responsibility of issuing Learner’s Permit and Plates to the Association of Drivers’ Instructors of Nigeria.
“The ministry will henceforth be in charge of issuance of Learners’ Permit and Learners’ plate for the purpose of uniformity, maintaining adequate statistics and also to block leakages in order to enhance revenue generation in the state,” it added.
The Commissioner of Works and Transport, Alhaji Aro Yahaya lauded the move as it is targeted towards enhancing revenue derivation for the state.
The commissioner noted that the Drivers’ Instructors in collaboration with the Vehicle Inspection Unit (VIU) will put in place proper arrangement to allow safety on the road and to maintain proper driving culture across the State.
He called on the general public to cooperate with the association in ensuring smooth operations.
The Chairman of the association, Mr Bolarin Abiodun appreciated the gesture promising that members will ensure effective operations in the state.
